Silent Suffering: Social and Legal Challenges of Indian Men- An Empirical Study

Author(s) : Dr. Kritika

Abstract This work aims at investigating what is often overlooked in the men's victimisation within the legal system, which includes sexual harassment, legal injustices, paranoia over false allegations and stereotyping. Through a survey research design, 200 male participants were surveyed using a structured questionnaire; however, only 156 were valid for analysis. Pearson’s correlation analysis, Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s post hoc tests were used to examine the following variables of interest: legal awareness, legal support fairness, gender stereotyping in legal matters and fear of false allegations. The results also highlight the relationship between legal concern and attitudes to legal assistance as well as the gender prejudices with clients’ situation within the legal system. Moreover, the findings of the study also reveal how the legal system and gender prejudices affect the experience of masculinity and silent suffering in the cases of sexual harassment and violence against men. This paper, therefore, underscores these barriers and the need for legal changes to provide a level playing field to the affected individuals. The study also recommends that further research employ qualitative analyses to understand the individual experiences of men in the legal setting, as well as cross-cultural research to evaluate how various legal systems relate to violent gendered conduct and silent suffering.

Author(s) : Dr. Rajesh B. Deshmukh & Ms. Shivkanya Kadam Wadikar

Abstract Drugs are a well-known and highly problematic issue of every society. The regional Drug Law Enforcement agencies in India such as the Narcotics Control Bureau, Excise Department, State police, etc. play an important role in the seizure and reporting of drug trafficking incidents in India. The year-wise drug seizures done by these agencies are analyzed and published yearly by the national agency by name NCRB. These reports are a good source of data for analyzing contemporary issues in society. In the present study, the data published by NCRB from 1982 to 2022 is taken for analysis to find out the nature and extent of different categories of drug in India. The drugs that are more prone to abuse in India are studied based on its seizure by various enforcement agencies of India. The study is significant to predict future possible drug trends based on the present day scenario. It will provide guidelines for the policymakers and the law enforcement agencies for taking precautionary measures to combat against the upcoming danger with fullest strength.

The Codification of Justice: A Critical Analysis of Gender and Property Rights in the Manusmriti and the Yajnavalkya Smriti

Author(s) : Dr. Rashmi Pradhan & Dr. Imran Ahmad

Abstract The Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005 marks a transformative constitutional intervention by recognising daughters as coparceners by birth and extending equal inheritance rights within the Mitāksharā coparcenary system. However, this development must be situated within the broader historical evolution of Hindu women’s property rights and the gradual codification of gender justice in Hindu personal law. This article critically examines the treatment of women’s proprietary rights in classical Hindu legal texts, particularly the Manusmriti and the Yājñavalkya Smriti, with specific focus on the concepts of strīdhan, inheritance, and guardianship. Adopting a doctrinal and feminist methodology, the study analyses these texts alongside their interpretation under the Mitāksharā school and Dāyabhāga school traditions. It traces their eventual statutory reform under the Hindu Succession Act, 1956. The analysis reveals that while classical sources recognise certain proprietary interests of women, they simultaneously embed structural limitations that subordinate women within a patriarchal familial framework. Even with modern statutory reforms expanding women’s legal entitlements, residual “protective” doctrines—such as lifelong male guardianship and restricted inheritance structures— continue to reflect entrenched patriarchal assumptions. By situating the Hindu succession regime within constitutional principles of equality and non-discrimination, this article argues that the project of achieving substantive gender justice in Hindu women’s succession rights remains ongoing and incomplete. It concludes by emphasising the need for a more transformative legal approach that moves beyond formal equality towards dismantling the structural inequities embedded in both classical and codified law.

Dal Lake at Risk: A Management-Centered Evaluation of Environmental Laws, Governance Structures, and Stakeholder Strategies for Sustainable Conservation in India

Author(s) : Avantika Raina

Abstract Dal Lake, a world-renowned water body nestled in the heart of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, embodies ecological wealth, cultural heritage, and economic value. Despite its significance, the lake faces severe environmental degradation driven by unplanned urbanization, encroachments, pollution, and governance failures. This qualitative research critically evaluates the legal and institutional mechanisms for the lake's conservation through a management lens. It examines governance structures, policy implementation, inter-agency coordination, and stakeholder engagement, alongside the role of project planning, resource management, and performance monitoring in enforcing environmental laws. Applying management theories—public management, change management, and stakeholder theory—the paper assesses how leadership, accountability, and adaptive strategies can strengthen conservation outcomes. The study underscores the need for integrated, community-participative, and performance-driven governance to ensure the ecological sustainability of Dal Lake.

Author(s) : Shubhra Khanna & Dr. Eakramuddin

Abstract Sustainable development theory reconceptualizes development to meet the current generations needs without compromising on the needs of the future generations. It calls for a balanced approach which combines growth and equity and takes account of both economic, social and environmental considerations as true progress must be of long duration and benefit the next generations. It emphasizes that environmental conservation is essential for the stability of the economy and social development in general, since pollution and destruction of nature endanger economic safety and human rights. The most serious damage from ecocide affects sustainable development; by destroying ecosystems disputes are created within communities and livelihoods disrupted, often because of social conditions (i.e., poverty) or because of conflict. Purpose of research is to analyse the gravity of environmental damage and adopting ecocide as 5th core international crime under International Criminal Court. The research problem is that big states and corporations do not follow practices to preserve the environment for their own cause. Doctrinal research methodology has been adopted in the present article. Legal and ethical tools to be used to make corporations accountable for loss to the environment. Transnationals frequently cause the reality of ecocide, which endangers local and then world economic systems. The piece calls for worldwide legislation to outlaw ecocide, punish corporations.
